When notifications do not work: a troubleshooting guide
Why the opt-in banner does not show, why nobody subscribes, why a notification did not arrive, phones and iPhone, and the installation check — with the fix for each.

The banner does not show
| Cause | Fix |
|---|---|
| The Monfri script is not on the page | Check that tracking works. |
| You declined it before | It stays away for the days you set (7 by default). Try a private window. |
| You allowed or blocked notifications before | It never asks twice. In the browser's site settings, reset notifications for the site. |
| The site waits for marketing consent | Accept marketing in your cookie banner: Consent and cookies. |
| The page is excluded | Check Only on pages and Never on pages in the opt-in prompt. |
| An iPhone or iPad | Browsers there allow notifications only to sites added to the Home Screen; the banner does not show. |
| A browser without web push | Some in-app browsers (Facebook, Instagram) and private modes do not support it. |
Nobody subscribes
The banner shows, but nobody clicks Allow: make the offer clear — what they will get and how often — show it a little later (Show after (seconds)), keep it away from the checkout. A few percent of visitors subscribing is normal.
A notification did not arrive
- Open the subscriber's page — Notification History shows what was sent and any error: Web push subscribers.
- expired means the browser dropped the subscription; it cannot be reached.
- The computer was off or the browser closed: the notification shows when it opens again, if it is not too old.
- Do Not Disturb or Focus modes hide notifications without saying so.
- For a recipe's push: Push → Transactional shows each one with its status: Transactional push.
Verify SDK fails
A site with the Monfri script needs only the script — the service worker line says it is not needed. When SDK Script shows ✗, the script is not on the home page, it is added through Google Tag Manager (the check cannot see it; it still works), or a cache serves an old page. See Apps.
Clicked notifications do not show in analytics
A recipe's push adds utm_medium=push to its link. A campaign's link is yours: add UTM tags to it to see the visits in your analytics.
