Import products, orders and customers from a file

Bring old orders, customers or a product catalog into CDP from a CSV or XML file — upload, match the columns, check the preview and read the result.

When your store is connected, its data comes in by itself — see Connect your online store. Import a file when you need data the connection cannot bring: orders from a previous shop platform, customers from another system, or the catalog of a store Monfri cannot connect to.

Before you start

  • One file holds one kind of record: products, orders or customers.
  • CSV with a header row, or XML, up to 10 MB. Split a bigger file into parts.
  • Each row needs its own ID from your system (externalId). Importing the same file again updates those rows instead of adding them twice.

Import step by step

In CDP, open Commerce → Import. Import Data has three steps.

  1. Upload. Under Entity type, choose Products, Orders or Customers. Drop the file on Drop CSV or XML file here, or click to choose it, then Continue.
  2. Map the columns. For each CSV Column of your file, choose what it Maps to, or -- skip -- to leave it out. Preview (mapped data) shows the first rows as they will be saved. Back returns to the upload; Import starts.
  3. The result. Created, Updated and Failed count the rows. If some failed, open the list of errors — the first ten show with the reason. Import Another starts again.

The fields

Kind Fields you can map
Products externalId, name, sku, price, compareAtPrice, currency, description, imageUrl, url, brand, categoryPath, stockStatus, tags
Orders externalId, customerEmail, total, currency, status, paymentMethod, platformCreatedAt
Customers externalId, email, firstName, lastName, phone, country, city, tags

Dates — such as platformCreatedAt, the date of an order — work best as 2026-10-09 or 2026-10-09 14:30. Prices use a dot for decimals: 19.90.

Good to know

  • Imported records show in Products, Orders and Customers like synced ones.
  • Importing contacts for e-mail campaigns is a different thing: that is done in Push. The CDP import is for your store's records.

If something doesn't work

Failed to preview file

The file is not a valid CSV or XML, is bigger than 10 MB, or has no header row. Save it again as CSV (UTF-8) from your spreadsheet and try again.

Many rows failed

Open the list of errors. The usual reasons: a missing externalId, a price or date in a format the import does not read, or a wrong column chosen in Maps to. Fix the file and import it again — rows that were created are updated, not doubled.

Bulgarian letters look broken

The file was not saved as UTF-8. Save it again as CSV UTF-8 and import it again.
