Check an e-mail before you send it: spam score, links and alt text

What the Analyze panel checks — the spam score and its issues, alt text, links, the deliverability checklist — how to fix each kind of issue, and how to preview and test.

Analyze in the editor's top bar opens Content Analysis on the right. It reads the e-mail the way spam filters do and lists what to fix. Re-check runs it again after your changes.

The spam score

A number from 0 to 100 — lower is better — with a word:

Score Means
0–10 Excellent
11–20 Good
21–40 Needs work
41–60 Poor
above 60 High risk

Below it, the issues by weight: Critical Issues, Warnings and Tips. Click an issue with ➜ to jump to its block; How to fix opens the advice.

What it looks at

  • The subject — missing, mostly capital letters, spam words, longer than about 50 characters, RE: or FW: in a marketing e-mail, many !! or emoji.
  • The words — spam phrases (100% free, risk free, $$$…), too many exclamation marks, a lot of CAPITALS.
  • Images and text — an e-mail that is mostly pictures with little text, a single image with no text at all.
  • Size — Gmail cuts e-mails larger than 102 KB; the check warns from about 80 KB.
  • Links — more than 10 links, link shorteners (bit.ly and similar), links to bare IP addresses, link text that names another site than the link goes to, vague texts such as click here.
  • Hidden content — text the same colour as its background, tiny or hidden text, forms.
  • The unsubscribe link — missing it is critical; campaigns without it are not sent.

The check knows spam words in English; a Bulgarian text is judged by the other signs.

Accessibility lists images with no alt text — the words shown when pictures are off, and read aloud by screen readers. Links lists links that look broken. All images have alt text and All links look valid mean nothing to do.

The deliverability checklist

Five lines at the end: Subject line set, Preheader set, Unsubscribe link present, Alt text complete, Links valid. ✓ is fine; ⚠ and ✗ are worth fixing.

Preview and test

Preview shows the e-mail on Desktop, Mobile, in the Inbox list and in Dark mode. Test Send sends it to you — the surest check is how it looks in your own Gmail, Outlook or phone.

If something doesn't work

A low score, but it went to spam

The score checks the content. Where an e-mail lands depends just as much on your domain's setup and on how people treat your e-mails: Deliverability: reaching the inbox.

A spam word is part of your shop's name

Keep it — one word adds a little. Take out the ones you can and check the rest of the e-mail.

The e-mail is over 102 KB

Gmail shows [Message clipped] and hides the rest, the unsubscribe link included. Shorten the text, remove blocks, or split it into two e-mails.
