Funnels: where visitors drop off

Build a funnel from the steps of a path — for example product, cart, checkout, order — see how many people reach each step, where they leave and how long it takes.

A funnel follows people through the steps of a path you care about — viewed a product, added it to the cart, started the checkout, ordered — and shows how many reach each step and where they leave.

Create a funnel

  1. In CDP, open Analytics → Funnels and click Create Funnel.
  2. Enter a Funnel Name and, if you like, a Description.
  3. Under Funnel Stages, set each step: a name, the kind of event — page, track, identify — and the Event name, for example Product Viewed. Click where to narrow a step to an event with a certain detail, such as a page path.
  4. Add Stage adds a step; drag the handle to reorder; a funnel needs at least two.
  5. Click Create Funnel.

Start from a template

Browse Templates opens ready-made funnels for your type of site — for a store, for example, the path from product to order. Tick the ones you want and click Import … Templates. Show not-yet-tracked also lists templates whose events your site does not send yet.

Read a funnel

Click a funnel and choose the period: Last 7 days, Last 14 days, Last 30 days or Last 90 days.

Part Meaning
Entered Funnel People who did the first step.
Completed People who did every step.
Overall Conversion Completed ÷ entered.
Avg Completion Time How long it took from the first step to the last.
Funnel Visualization The steps as bars.
Stage Breakdown For each Stage: the Users who reached it, Conv. from the previous step, the Dropoff, and the Avg Time from the previous step.
Conversion Trend The conversion day by day.

How people are counted

  • A person counts at a step only if they did the steps before it, in order.
  • All steps must happen inside the chosen period; someone who viewed a product 40 days ago and ordered today is not in a 30-day funnel.
  • Each person counts once, however many times they repeat a step.

Manage funnels

In Your Funnels, the buttons on a funnel: Edit funnel, Duplicate funnel and Delete funnel.

If something doesn't work

No data available for this period

Nobody did the first step in the period, or the event name differs from what your site sends. Copy the name from Audience → Events.

A step has 0 users though people do it

Its event name or its where condition does not match. Open the step in Edit funnel and compare with a real event in Audience → Events.

I cannot create funnels

Your CDP role is Viewer, or your access is limited to some CDP sections: both can read funnels, not create them. Ask an owner or admin — see What each person can open: service access.
