What the CDP dashboard shows — profiles, activity, events, traffic sources and referrers — and how traffic is sorted into direct, search, social, e-mail and referral.

The dashboard is the first screen of CDP — Dashboard at the top of the menu. It answers three questions: how many people do we know, what are they doing, and where do they come from.

The four numbers

Number Meaning
Total Profiles Every profile in the workspace — anonymous and identified.
Active (24h) Profiles with activity in the last 24 hours.
Events Today Events received today.
Total Events Every event received so far.

What a profile and an event are: Customer profiles: everything CDP knows about one person and What CDP collects: events.

Charts and lists

  • Events (Last 14 Days) — events day by day; a sudden drop usually means the script stopped on some pages.
  • Top Events (Last 7 Days) — the events your site sends most.
  • Traffic Sources (30d) — where visits came from, by kind, with the share of each.
  • Top Referrers — the sites that sent the most visits, with their visitors.
  • Traffic Trends — the kinds of traffic day by day.
  • Recent Activity — the latest things people did on the site.

How traffic is sorted

Each visit is put in one kind by the page the visitor came from:

Kind When
direct No previous page — a typed address, a bookmark, an app.
search Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Yandex.
social Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Viber, Reddit.
email A web mail such as Gmail or Outlook.
referral Any other site.

When your links carry UTM tags — in e-mails, ads or posts — the tags are kept with each visit and work in segments — see Segment conditions: the complete reference.

More analytics

The dashboard is the overview. The detail is under Analytics in the menu:

If something doesn't work

The dashboard is empty

No events have arrived yet. See Check that tracking works, and fix it when it does not.

Traffic Sources does not show

It appears once there are page views in the last 30 days.

Most traffic is direct

Apps such as Messenger and many mail programs do not pass the previous page, so their visits count as direct. Put UTM tags on the links you share to see them separately.
