Unsubscribes, bounces and blocked addresses
The unsubscribe link every campaign carries — it ends all your marketing e-mail to that person, not their order e-mails — how Push checks every address, how bounces and spam complaints stop an address, and how to find out why someone gets no e-mail.
Push keeps your sending clean on its own: people can leave with one click, every address is checked before your e-mail goes, and addresses that bounce or complain stop getting e-mail. Here is what happens in each case.
The unsubscribe link
Every campaign must carry an unsubscribe link — the Footer block's Unsubscribe Link, or {{unsubscribe_url}} anywhere in the template. Push refuses to send a campaign without it. It also adds the one-click unsubscribe header that Gmail, Yahoo and others show next to your name.
When someone clicks the link, a page asks Stop all marketing e-mails from this sender? Messages about your orders and your account will still arrive. After Unsubscribe, your workspace sends them no marketing e-mail at all: no campaign from any list, no marketing recipe e-mail such as the abandoned-cart reminder, and no e-mail of a CRM sequence. Their consent is withdrawn on every list they are on. Order and account e-mails — confirmations, shipping, invoices, password — still reach them. The preference page behind the link has one button, Unsubscribe from marketing e-mails, which does the same. So does the unsubscribe link of a CRM sequence, and Gmail's own Unsubscribe button.
Coming back after an unsubscribe
Nothing brings someone back behind their back: an import or the sync from your shop adds them to a list as Unsubscribed, and Add Subscriber refuses the address with the day they left.
When the person signs up again through your sign-up form (an API call with consent_source signup_form or double_opt_in), Push e-mails them from your default sender: Confirm that you want e-mails from your store again. The marketing comes back only after they press Yes, send me e-mails again — until then they stay unsubscribed. They get at most one such e-mail a day, and the link works for 7 days.
The address check
Push checks every address before it sends — the ones on your lists, and the ones your recipes and the API send to:
- Invalid — the domain does not exist, takes no e-mail or has not answered for more than a day, or it is a typo of a big provider (gmail.con, gmial.com, abv.bh, 22gmail.com). Nothing is sent to it, not even an order e-mail: such mail bounces, or reaches a stranger who registered the typo. Push suggests the fix — did you mean gmail.com?
- Risky — a shared mailbox (info@, office@, noreply@…), a temporary mailbox, a domain without a mail server of its own, or a domain a letter or two from a big provider. It gets no campaigns and no marketing e-mail; order and account e-mails still go. If you know the address is read, allow it: open the person in Email → Subscribers → Address check → Allow this address, or click Allow next to it under Transactional → Deliverability.
- Not checked yet — Push checks a new domain within minutes, and a campaign checks the new domains of its list before it goes out (a few minutes after Send Now). Every domain is checked again once a week. Only an address whose domain has not answered yet is sent to as usual; after a day without an answer the domain counts as invalid, and Push asks it again every six hours — the first answer lifts it.
Bounces
When the receiving server refuses for good:
- The address cannot receive e-mail — it does not exist, the domain is gone, the mailbox is full — the person becomes Bounced and the address is blocked for your whole workspace: no campaign from any list and no transactional e-mail reaches it again.
- The refusal is about the sender, not the address — reputation, policy, content, a server's limit on how fast it accepts mail — the address stays as it is. The refusal is recorded so you can see it in the reports.
- The refusal names no reason — the address is blocked the second time it happens.
A temporary refusal — a server that is down, try again later — is retried for up to 12 hours. An address whose e-mails expire 3 times in a row without a delivery in between is blocked. A list subscriber with 5 temporary refusals in a row is blocked too.
One list for every shop on Monfri
Every shop on Monfri sends from the same sending addresses, so a dead mailbox has to bounce only once for all of them. When an address's mailbox does not exist, is full, or its e-mails expired 3 times in a row, no shop on Monfri sends it anything — the address check shows it as invalid with the reason, in your lists too. Push never says which shop the address bounced for. A dead domain is not on this list: the domain check already answers for everyone, and notices when the domain comes back. If you know the mailbox works again, write to [email protected] — only Monfri support can lift it.
Spam complaints
When someone marks your e-mail as spam and their provider tells us, the person gets no more marketing — like an unsubscribe — and becomes Suppressed on your lists. Their order and account e-mails still go. A complaint counts for every shop on Monfri too: no shop sends that person campaigns or marketing e-mails any more, and it cannot be allowed. Complaints hurt your reputation more than anything else: keep sending only to people who asked for your e-mail.
Inactive subscribers
Someone who got five campaigns or more in the last 180 days and opened or clicked none of them is inactive: campaigns leave them out unless the campaign has Also send to inactive subscribers ticked. Any open counts — on Gmail or an iPhone too. An open or a click brings them back the next day. Order and account e-mails are not affected.
Find out why someone gets no e-mail
Push → Email → Transactional → Find recipient: type the address and click Check. It tells you whether the address is suppressed (with the reason and since when), whether they unsubscribed from your marketing, whether the address check found it invalid or risky (and why), lists the messages sent to it and the bounce log of the last 90 days. For campaigns, also look at the person on the list: E-mail subscribers.
If something doesn't work
Template is missing a required unsubscribe link.
Add the Footer block with Unsubscribe Link set to true, or put {{unsubscribe_url}} in a link, and send again.
Someone asks to stop all e-mail from you
Click Unsubscribe on their page in every list it shows under List Memberships: campaigns and marketing recipe e-mails stop. Their order and account e-mails still go — if they want none at all, write to [email protected].
This address unsubscribed from your marketing e-mails on …
Add Subscriber says this for someone who left through an unsubscribe link in one of your e-mails. They cannot be added back by hand. When they sign up again through your form, Push asks them to confirm by e-mail (see above).
A marketing e-mail was not sent: risky address
The person's address is risky — a shared or temporary mailbox, or a domain without a mail server of its own. If you know it is read, allow it on the person's page (Address check → Allow this address).
A blocked address works again
A hard bounce can be temporary for a domain that came back. If you are sure the address works, write to [email protected] with the address — blocked addresses are lifted by Monfri support.
