Create a segment

Build a group of people from rules — what they did, who they are, where they came from — see how many match before you save, and edit, copy or switch it off later.

A segment is a group of profiles that match your rules — for example "bought in the last 90 days and spent over €200", or "read three articles about football this week". Segments keep themselves up to date: people come in when they match and leave when they no longer do.

Create a segment

  1. In CDP, open Audience → Segments and click Create Segment.
  2. Name it — the name shows wherever the segment is used, so make it say who is in it, for example Bought twice, not in 60 days.
  3. Add a Description if it helps others understand it.
  4. Site Type and Site Domain — leave Auto-detect unless the workspace has sites of different types; then choose the one the segment is about.
  5. Under Conditions, add the rules — see below.
  6. Read the estimate — ~… profiles match — and click Create Segment.

The segment starts to fill at once. A big segment can take a few minutes to reach its full size.

Conditions

Click Add Condition and pick the kind:

Group Kinds
Profile Trait — something known about the person, such as country or language; Computed Trait — something Monfri works out from the person's data; the list shows the ones your profiles have; Date — First Seen or Last Seen.
Behavior Event — did something, how many times, in what period; Event Property — an event with a detail, such as a product category; Recency — when they last or first did something; Page — visited a page by path, address, title or referrer; Aggregate — a sum, average, minimum or maximum, such as the total of their orders.
Context Location — country, city, region, time zone; Device — device type, system, browser; Campaign — the UTM source, medium, campaign, term or content they came with.
Segment Cohort — is or is not a member of another segment.

Every condition is described in detail in Segment conditions: the complete reference.

ALL or ANY, and groups

At the top of the conditions, Match ALL of the following conditions means a person must meet every condition; click ALL to switch to ANY, and one condition is enough.

Add Group adds a group with its own ALL or ANY — for example: bought in the last 90 days and (lives in Sofia or lives in Plovdiv). With no conditions at all, the segment includes everybody.

Manage a segment

On Segments, the … next to a segment, or the buttons on its page:

  • Edit — change the name, the description or the conditions. People who no longer match leave, new ones come in.
  • Duplicate — a copy to change without touching the original.
  • Deactivate / Activate — an inactive segment stops updating and keeps its last members.
  • Delete — This will permanently delete … and all membership data. This cannot be undone. A flow that uses the segment stops getting new people.

The list can be searched and filtered — Search by name or description..., Site Type, Status, Domain, Min Members, Max Members — and sorted by Created Date, Updated Date, Name or Members.

Good to know

  • The estimate is calculated from a sample, so the real number can differ a little.
  • Conditions about pages, location, devices and event details look through each person's history and are the slowest to compute on big sites; prefer traits and events when either will do.
  • Campaign conditions find UTM tags in visits from 21 September 2026 on.

If something doesn't work

~0 profiles match

Loosen one condition at a time to see which one empties the segment. A common cause is a value that differs from what the site sends — check it in Audience → Events.

The segment stays at 0 after saving

It may still be filling — wait a few minutes. A segment marked Updated daily fills during the night. See Using segments: live and daily, growth, and where they work.
