Migrate from Mailchimp to Monfri

Step 1 — Export audiences (10 min)

In Mailchimp: Audience → All contacts → Export. For each Audience, export as CSV. Include all merge fields and tags.

Unsubscribed contacts: export separately via Audience → Unsubscribed (we'll import them as suppressed in Monfri).

Step 2 — Import into Monfri (10 min)

In Monfri: Push → Email → Subscribers → Import. Upload each audience CSV. Our importer auto-maps Mailchimp schema:

• EMAIL → Monfri email
• FNAME, LNAME → first_name, last_name
• Custom merge fields → custom fields
• Tags → preserved as tags

Upload suppressed contacts separately. They'll be added to the suppression list, preventing accidental re-adds.

Step 3 — Export + import templates (30-60 min)

In Mailchimp: Content → Templates → [select] → Export as HTML. For each priority template:

1. Save the HTML file
2. In Monfri: Email → Templates → New → Import HTML
3. Our HTML-to-blocks converter rebuilds structure
4. Review — most templates port 95% cleanly; adjust complex merge tag syntax manually

Mailchimp merge tags *|FNAME|* convert to Monfri syntax {{ contact.first_name }} automatically.

Step 4 — Rebuild Customer Journeys (30-90 min each)

Mailchimp Journeys don't export. Rebuild in Monfri Automation:

1. List your active Journeys (Mailchimp → Automations)
2. Screenshot each for reference
3. In Monfri: Automation → New Flow
4. Rebuild step-by-step — most concepts map 1:1 (delay, send email, conditional branch)
5. Bonus: Monfri lets you add multi-channel actions (push + SMS alongside email) that Mailchimp can't do

Step 5 — Sending domain setup (30 min)

Add your domain in Monfri (Email → Domains → New). Copy DKIM/SPF records. Update DNS. Wait for verification.

Keep Mailchimp's authentication records live during parallel-run — both platforms can coexist on the same domain.

Step 6 — Parallel-run (14 days)

Run both platforms. Send new campaigns from Monfri; let Mailchimp finish active journeys. Monitor deliverability daily.

Step 7 — Cancel Mailchimp (5 min)

Monthly billing = immediate cancel. Annual = runs until renewal. Do one final audience export as backup before canceling.

What about Mailchimp-specific features?

• Mailchimp Sites (landing pages): Not replaced by Monfri. Use Webflow, Framer, or your own CMS.
• Mailchimp Surveys: Use Typeform or Tally; trigger Monfri webhooks on completion.
• Mailchimp Postcards (print direct mail): Not replaced. Keep Mailchimp postcards feature if you use it, or switch to Lob.
• Mailchimp Websites builder: Not replaced. Use a real CMS.
